The Hawaiian word for sea turtle is honu and they are considered a symbol of good luck in Hawaii. This modern and abstract design of a honu represents all the different sea
turtles found in Hawaiian waters, particularly the Green Sea Turtle. The artist, originally from Hawaii, was inspired by her son’s favorite plush honu he carried around with him from the time he was a baby.

Each onesie has 1 Happy Honu applique and the backside has a coordinating turtle patch.

The t-shirt is made of 100% cotton with a green 100% cotton applique of a green sea turtle with chocolate brown stitching design on the shell. The top backside has a coordinating sea turtle patch.

Happy Honu Goes Blue

Why I didn't make Happy Honu on a blue baby blanket sooner is a mystery to me. I guess I was so obsessed with chocolate brown, but I am realizing that the variation looks awesome!

So, here it is! Two Happy Honu satin appliques on a light blue cotton background with a cream flannel underside. Each honu has a blue circle design embroidered in blue.

Sea Turtle Design Gets an Official Name: "Happy Honu"

I am officially renaming my super popular sea turtle design to "Happy Honu". For those non-Hawaii folks, Honu in Hawaiian means sea turtle. I felt that my design needed a name for copyright purposes which is underway. Like I mentioned before in a previous blog I never did expect this design to be so well received by people across the world. But, it is rather a universal image so it makes sense now that so many people from different walks of life love this design.

I have used "Happy Honu" on many different mediums such as blankets, pillows, quilts, prints, cards, and clothing.

I have 2 versions of "Happy Honu" now. One is my original design of the green sea turtle with circles design on the shell. The other is of the green sea turtle with an abstract design of Earth on its shell in honor of Earth Day and saving the planet all day every day.
